    Why this matters

Backpackers struggle to find cheap, safe options in cities.

You can host for a night and meet global travelers.

Minimal effort, full control: you set rules & times.

    How it works

Simple, safe, and you're in control

Step 1: Host lists a backyard, dates & rules

Set your availability, house rules, and whether you want a small fee or keep it free.

Step 2: Traveler sends a request (you approve)

Review guest profiles and only accept people you're comfortable with.

Step 3: One-night stay, short feedback

Host the traveler for a night, then leave a quick review to build trust.

Travelling with a tent? Find a backyard to stay in

    Leon, founder

Meet Leon, passionate about sharing hidden backyards

Kia ora 👋, I'm Leon! Back in 2018, I backpacked through NZ and fell in love with the country. As a budget traveler curious about meeting locals, I sometimes wished I could just pitch my tent in someone's backyard. That idea stuck with me, and now I'm bringing it to life in New Zealand. I personally run Yardzzz to make hosting simple, safe, and fun for both hosts and travellers 🙂

    Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about hosting

No. Hosts only offer outdoor space (such as a garden or backyard) and keep full control over access and house rules. Guests do not require access to your home. Your listing does need a toilet option: one you choose to offer, a public toilet nearby, or guests bring their own (a self-contained camper or portable toilet). The listing shows which; if it doesn't, travellers should ask you before they request. If the toilet is outside, such as an outdoor toilet, or a public one nearby, guests never need to enter your home.

You stay in full control. You decide who to accept, can review traveller profiles, and communicate with guests before agreeing to a stay. Some travellers may have completed optional ID verification, which is clearly shown on their profile, but ID verification is not mandatory. Hosts decide whom they feel comfortable hosting.

Not necessarily, but your listing needs a toilet option for guests. This can be: • A toilet you choose to make available • A public toilet nearby • Guests bring their own (a self-contained camper or portable toilet) The listing shows which; if it doesn't, travellers should ask you before they request.

That's up to you. Some hosts offer their space for free, while others ask a small fee, agreed directly with the traveller and paid on arrival. Yardzzz currently does not process host payments. Any agreed payment is handled directly between host and traveller (for example, a private cash payment agreed directly between host and traveller).

Hosts are responsible for following any local rules that apply to their property (such as camping, fire safety, noise, and sanitation). Yardzzz is a platform that connects travellers and hosts and does not provide legal advice.
